A powerful mix of nostalgia, romanticism and story telling
"Music contributes profoundly to the richness and beauty of our life."
A powerful mix of nostalgia, romanticism and story telling, the long awaited album 'The Return... To Canada with Love' now in stores across Canada, and on iTunes!
Liona Boyd, five time Juno award winner, "The First Lady of the Guitar", has introduced millions around the world to the art of classical guitar through her concerts, television specials, and twenty-two recordings, many of which have gone Gold and Platinum.
In 2009 Liona embarked upon an exciting new chapter in her career when she added singing to her guitar playing. She is now an accomplished singer and songwriter while still integrating her classical guitar style into the new repertoire.
Liona has given solo and orchestral concerts around the globe and played for dozens of world leaders including the British Royal Family and the US President. She has recorded with Sir Andrew Davis and the English Chamber Orchestra, Yo Yo Ma and Georges Zamfir, and breaking with classical tradition has toured with Gordon Lightfoot and Tracy Chapman as well as recorded with Chet Atkins, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, and Roger Whittaker. Liona has been a special guest on dozens of American television shows including The Tonight Show, Today Show, Boston Pops and Entertainment Tonight. Her virtuoso talents resulted in five Juno awards, five Honorary Doctorates, The Order of Canada, The Order of Ontario and the Diamond Jubilee Medal. She is a five-time winner of the Guitar Player Magazine poll for best classical guitarist and has been inducted into their "Gallery of Greats." Liona has composed and arranged hundreds of pieces for her instrument and also penned a best-selling autobiography, "In My Own Key... My Life in Love and Music".
Recently Liona Boyd returned from the USA to live in Toronto and now tours accompanied by guitarist Michael Savona. In September 2013 she released a new CD called 'The Return... to Canada with Love'. This album, her "greatest ever" according to many of those who have heard the work in progress, is an ambitious, powerful and unique project dedicated to Canada that features guest performances by Olivia Newton-John, Dan Hill, Jann Arden, Randy Bachman, Serena Ryder, Chris Hadfield, Maria Aragon, Daniel Lavoie, John McDermott, Eleanor McCain, Mark Masri, Divine Brown and many others. Her original style has been described as "Enya meets Leonard Cohen, meets the beautiful guitar tones that could only come from Liona Boyd".
